What could be causing a painful burning sensation in the back and arms?

My dad had bypass surgery 7 years ago and a stent 2 years ago. He recently (2 weeks ago)had a nuclear stress test done, His Dr. said everything was excellent. Since the test he has been having a burning sensation in his mid back radiating to his rib area and in his arms. He can’t even sleep at night because of the pain. This pain is on/off all day and worse during physical activity. He went back to the Dr. today and they don’t have any idea what this could be. The Dr. put him on a nitrate med., but my dad feels that it is something other than his heart because he isn’t having any chest pain. Does anyone have any ideas as to what this could be?
