Rug Pads for Persian and Oriental Rugs

Persian and oriental rugs can last a lifetime with the proper rug pad. A rug pad will prolong the life of any persian and oriental rug while also protecting your floors and your family. Since persian and oriental rugs are handmade, the back of the rugs consist of knots. These knots should be protected with a quality rug pad.

If your rug tends to slide, then the best rug pad for your persian and oriental rug is a recycled jute and solid rubber combination rug pad. This rug pad is needle punched to a dense quality. The recycled jute surface is slightly textured to hold your rug while the solid rubber bottom is patterned to grip to your floor. One important element of this rug pad is that it is dense enough to protect the back of all persian and oriental rugs. When the rug is walked on, the pressure from each step pushes down against the pile of the rug. This in turn pushes the knots of the rug against the hard floor. With this dense rug pad, the rug pad will act as a barrier and protect the knots of your rug. The knots of a rug are what actually keep hand knotted rugs together and the better protection, the longer your persian and oriental rug will last. This rug pad is approximately 1/4 of an inch thick.

Another great rug pad for persian and oriental rugs is one used with rugs that really don’t have a slipping issue. This is for rugs that are 8′ x 10′ and larger and for rugs that have furniture anchoring them. This rug pad is comprised of 100%  recycled jute that is needle punched. There are various quality weights of this jute pad and the best is a 40 ounce weight. This means the pad is very dense and this is what hand knotted rugs need to protect the back of the rug. You will also find this recycled jute rug pad for persian and oriental rugs to be comfortable, mold and mildew resistant and odor free. This rug pad is just less than a 1/2 of an inch thick.

I tend to shy away from those non slip waffle looking rug pads. The fact that they are not solid means that the back of hand knotted rugs is not fully protected. This type of pad is better for machine made rugs or rugs that have a backing and no knots.
